All of us can learn a lesson from this controversy, and no matter what you believe in, we should stick to what we think, and believe in, and have the courage to say so. Good job Miss California.

The Promenade in Temecula

22-Apr-09

It seems that the latest trend in mall design is to move everything outside in a “store front” design. Funny how times change, and go back to how it was. I remember walking up and down the street visiting different stores along the main shopping street in Long Beach, California. The owners of these malls will do anything to attract shoppers, and charge more per square foot to the poor independent merchant. Give it a few more years, and they will all go back inside.

Seagulls at Torrey Pines State Reserve

10-Apr-09

I was driving down to La Jolla the other day. I decided to get off the freeway, and take the scenic route down PCH. It was a bit windy, so I wasn’t really expecting to find a photographic opportunity. I came down the hill to the river crossing at the northern tip of the Torrey Pines State Reserve, and saw this huge, almost “swarm” of seagulls being fed by a couple with a bag of bread. I pulled into the first available parking slot, which happened to be directly under the swarm, and started firing some shots. I got lucky on a few frames, and caught a few birds in sharp focus. Here you see an example. The seagulls also left me a few gifts all over my car.

Marine says he shouldn’t face murder charge

Marine Sgt. Ryan Weemer. (NCT File Photo)

By MARK WALKER NCT CAMP PENDLETON —– A Marine on trial for killing a suspected insurgent in Iraq in 2004 told an investigator that he did not believe he should face prosecution for an act occurring “in the fog of war.”

Full story here

My opinion: I wasn’t there, and I was a Marine myself, but when the battle is done, we need to set a worldwide example as americans, to not kill in cold blood. I wish this Marine well, and he should not go to jail.
